Every year ASBA (Alberta Small Brewers Association) creates a beer to celebrate the collaboration and connection of all the different member breweries across the province. Upon some brewery “research”, many taprooms and bars have sticker collections on walls or furniture, often including a variety of brands and competitors. Emulating this sticker collage on a can label felt like an accurate way to highlight the diversity of brewers and how they interact in a fun and playful way. To further sell this idea each part of the can was made into a sticker that was fully pealable and usable with additional messaging hidden underneath to add an exploratory element to the label.
Each label was designed to be peeled off as a usable sticker, including all of the informational details and side panels. We made sure to hide special messages under every label to help encourage people to remove each sticker and to explore the
cans fully.
It was important to highlight every member brewery in Alberta but listing hundreds of brewery names on a label was logistically difficult. By leveraging variable printing we were able to spread the brewery names across the top and bottom of 4 cans which meant that a 4 pack purchase would alway show each brewery’s name at least once.
